West Ham Escalates Against Congo After Wan-Bissaka's Absence from Leeds Match
Wednesday 08-04-2026
West Ham United submitted an official complaint to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding the absence of their defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka from the match against Leeds United in the FA Cup quarter-finals, a match the team lost on penalties.

According to reports, Wan-Bissaka was unable to return to England on time after participating with the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team, even though the club had booked him a return flight. However, the player did not board the plane, with West Ham confirming that the Congolese federation kept him there without the club's consent.

The main reason for the crisis is due to the celebrations of the Congolese national team qualifying for the World Cup, where the players were kept in the capital, Kinshasa, to participate in official ceremonies, which led to the player's delayed return and his absence from the match.

West Ham bases its complaint on FIFA regulations, which stipulate that players must return to their clubs within 48 hours after completing their international duties. This did not happen in this case, prompting the club to seek clarifications and possibly compensations, in a matter that could open a new door to tensions between clubs and national teams.
