The Worst Disappointments of the English Premier League Season

The Guardian highlighted the major disappointments of the English Premier League season, whether in terms of players, coaches, or even the quality of football itself, in a season the newspaper described as "full of chaos and collapses."

Newcastle United's summer deals topped the list of failures, as the club paid £55 million to sign Congolese striker Yoane Wissa following his impressive performance with Brentford, but he managed only one goal in 13 league matches.

Wissa was not the only one criticized, as the deals for Nick Fultemade and Anthony Elanga also failed, leaving the team to finish the season in 12th place and miss out on European competitions, amid expectations of Anthony Gordon's departure in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur was one of the biggest disaster stories this season. The start with coach Thomas Frank seemed promising, but the team collapsed spectacularly afterward, leading to the coach being dismissed in February following a series of poor results.

Then Igor Tudor came for a short period that ended quickly after just 44 days, before Roberto De Zerbi took over and barely succeeded in keeping the team in 17th place, avoiding relegation.

The newspaper also touched on Ange Postecoglou's brief stint with Nottingham Forest, which ended after just 40 days, having collected two points in eight matches, making it one of the shortest coaching tenures in the league's history.

Ruben Amorim was also placed on the list of disappointments after his disastrous stint with Manchester United, especially following the humiliating exit from the League Cup against Grimsby from the fourth division, before he was dismissed last January.

One of the greatest disappointments ever was what happened to West Ham United, led by Portuguese Nuno Espírito Santo, which was confirmed to be relegated in the final round after a season full of setbacks.
