Thursday 02-04-2026
French star Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid player and captain of the French national team, spoke about his African roots and his connection to the cultures of Cameroon and Algeria, emphasizing that his upbringing was initially closer to the Cameroonian side of his family.

Mbappe stated, in comments to The Bridge Show, that he was more connected to his Cameroonian family during his early years, before things changed over time, and he became closer to his Algerian family, expressing his desire to visit Algeria for the first time.

He added that some people believe he is not interested in his Algerian roots because he has not visited the country yet, explaining that he has visited Cameroon several times, which contributed to this impression.

He concluded his remarks with a playful spirit about which team he would choose if he were not French, saying he might choose to represent Cameroon, while leaving his brother Ethan to represent Algeria.

On the sports front, Mbappe continues to shine with the French national team, having recently scored a goal in a friendly match against Brazil, bringing his international goals tally to 56, nearing the record of historic top scorer Olivier Giroud. He also equaled a record by scoring in seven consecutive matches for the national team.

Mbappe is preparing to compete in the upcoming World Cup with the French national team, in a group that includes Senegal, Norway, and Iraq, noting that he previously won the title in the 2018 edition, before losing the 2022 final to Argentina despite scoring three goals in the final match.
