Wednesday 01-04-2026
The Spanish newspapers highlighted the controversial events that accompanied the match between the Egyptian national team and the Spanish national team on Tuesday evening in the city of Cornellà, as part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

The match ended in a goalless draw, but it was marked by racist chants from some Spanish fans directed at Muslim players, particularly Lamine Yamal, including slogans like "Anyone who doesn't jump is a Muslim" and "Gibraltar is Spanish."

The newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" condemned the actions of the fans, considering the offensive chants to have marred the atmosphere of the match. Meanwhile, the newspaper "AS" indicated that the International Federation of Football (FIFA) would wait for the referee's report to determine whether penalties would be imposed, which could include financial fines or closing the stadium for upcoming matches.

For its part, the newspaper "Marca" described the events as a "way to ruin the party," highlighting the booing directed at Spain's goalkeeper Juan Garcia and coach De la Fuente, before the match concluded with racist chants against Muslims.

The Catalan newspaper "Sport" confirmed that the international break concluded with a friendly match between the two national teams, which was marred by these offensive chants that continued for a long time despite the goalless draw.
