Senegalese Federation Appeals to CAS with International Defense Team to Challenge CAF Decision
The Senegalese Football Federation decided to escalate its dispute with the Confederation of African Football by resorting to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to appeal the recent decision of the Appeals Committee.
The Senegalese federation formed a strong defense team consisting of seven lawyers from five different nationalities, led by Juan Crespo, with the participation of Serge Vitoux, Hamouda Bouazza, and Pierre Domergue Olivier, along with three lawyers from Senegal.
The defense team also includes individuals with previous experience in football disputes within the continent, among them lawyers who participated in defending the Moroccan federation in its case before CAF in 2015. This reflects the Senegalese federation's desire to rely on substantial legal expertise in this case.
On March 17, the CAF Appeals Committee issued a decision to strip the Senegal national team of the Africa Cup of Nations title, after considering them withdrawn from the final match against the Moroccan national team, which was scheduled for January 18 in the capital, Rabat.
On the other hand, the Senegalese federation moved quickly, announcing on March 25 that it had officially appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, hoping to overturn the decision and restore its rights.
