Approval to Postpone the Paris Saint-Germain vs. Lens Match
The board of the French Football League decided on Thursday morning to postpone Paris Saint-Germain's match in the French league due to their commitments in European competitions.
The council unanimously voted to postpone the match between Lens and Paris Saint-Germain, which was scheduled for April 11, as it fell between the first and second legs of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool, set for April 8 and 14.
The match is scheduled to take place between the 33rd and 34th rounds of the French league, specifically between May 9 and 16, which is the only available period in the competition's schedule.
Despite Lens club's opposition to changing the date of their match against Paris Saint-Germain, the league's board of directors has full authority to make this decision according to the competition's regulations, which grant it the right to adjust the match schedule during the season.
The debate had intensified in recent days, especially with Paris Saint-Germain requesting to postpone the match between the league leader and the runner-up, as only one point separates them, with the Parisian team having a game in hand.
For his part, Lens club president Joseph Oughourlian opposed the decision, considering that postponing the match harms the principle of equal opportunity among French league clubs. However, he acknowledged at the same time that he did not expect a different outcome. The club can appeal the decision before the conciliation committee of the French Olympic and Sports Committee.
