Al-Ahly Protests CAF's Decision Before the Match Against Tunisian Esperance
Tuesday 17-03-2026
The Al Ahly club issued an official statement on Monday evening protesting the decision of the African Football Confederation (CAF) to postpone the hearing of Al Ahly's appeal, which was scheduled for today, Tuesday, regarding the penalty of being deprived of their fans in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final against Tunisia's Esperance.

Al Ahly is scheduled to face Tunisian side Esperance next Saturday in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Al Ahly filed a protest with CAF after receiving a notification indicating that the appeal hearing, which was scheduled for 11:00 AM today, Tuesday, has been postponed to a later time.

Al Ahly added in its statement: "We received another notification that the appeal hearing has been postponed indefinitely, which angered us, especially since the return match against Esperance is scheduled for next Saturday at Cairo Stadium."

Al-Ahly Club has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to adhere to legal regulations, emphasizing its right to have its appeal reviewed before its upcoming match. This step comes after CAF's decision to ban the team's fans following an incident where water bottles were thrown in the players' tunnel.

Al Ahly emphasized in its statement that the penalty should be gradual, similar to what happened with other clubs. The club insisted in its appeal on its right to have the appeal reviewed urgently before the upcoming Champions League match, ensuring justice and granting the club the right to have its fans attend, even if only at a percentage of the stadium's capacity, as was the case with other African clubs in previous incidents.

The club stated in its announcement that Al Ahly fans had not previously committed this mistake since the beginning of the tournament, except in the match against Morocco's Royal Army at the end of the group stage.
