Austria Calls Up Warner and Chukwuemeka After Changing Their International Allegiance
After deciding to change their international allegiance, Paul Wanner and Carney Chukwuemeka were directly called up to join the Austrian national team. The team's coach, Ralf Rangnick, announced the inclusion of the duo in the squad in preparation for the two friendly matches as part of the World Cup preparations. The Austrian team will face Ghana on March 27 and South Korea on March 31 in the capital, Vienna.
Chukwuemeka, a 22-year-old midfielder, was born in Vienna to a Nigerian family and moved to England at a young age. He played for England's youth teams before deciding to represent Austria at the international level.
The player was with Aston Villa and Chelsea before moving to Borussia Dortmund. He is known for his ball control, playmaking, and ability to penetrate the opponent's lines. He was part of the England U19 team that won the European Championship in 2022.
Paul Warner, a 20-year-old attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing, was born in Dornbirn, Austria, to a German father and an Austrian mother. He began his career at Bayern Munich's academy, where he became the youngest player to appear for the first team in the Bundesliga at the age of 16 years and 15 days. He later moved to Eindhoven, wears the number 10, and is known for his playmaking skills, goal-scoring, and chance creation.
Rangnick pointed out that the invitation gives players the opportunity to prove their worthiness to join the World Cup, saying: "We are happy that they chose to join us. During this camp, they will of course have the opportunity to prove themselves to play in the World Cup."
He added: "Over the next ten to twelve years, I am sure they will be a strong addition for us and will significantly help the team."
