Dortmund Striker Between Patience and the Quest for Goals
Tuesday 28-04-2026
The Portuguese forward Fabio Silva continues his journey with Borussia Dortmund amid an uneven path, having experienced multiple stints in various clubs and leagues before arriving in Germany.

The 23-year-old player has yet to find full stability, particularly due to the delay in his start caused by an injury he sustained after his transfer in the last summer transfer window, which has led him to alternate between being on the bench and coming on as a substitute.

Although his goal-scoring numbers may seem modest, Silva's role on the field is not limited to scoring alone. He tends to move outside the penalty area, participate in building attacks, and playmaking, which explains why he has more assists than goals. This style has made him a valuable asset in the attacking system, despite his infrequent appearances in decisive moments.

However, the numbers remain an undeniable pressure for a striker, as he has scored only two goals in the league over 25 matches, and three goals in 36 official matches, a rate that is unsatisfactory for a player in his position. Silva himself admits that scoring goals is "the best feeling for a striker," but he also points out that some things take longer to change.

His last goal against Freiburg came as a potential opportunity to break this deadlock, after he followed up a ball inside the penalty area and placed it in the net in a match that Dortmund clearly won. Although the goal was not decisive in the result, it may represent a psychological turning point for the Portuguese striker, who hopes this goal will be the start of "breaking the curse" and regaining confidence in front of the goal.
