Sunday 15-03-2026
The 2026 Barcelona club presidential elections witnessed a notable incident involving German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who faced an issue that prevented him from casting his vote during the voting process.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo', Ter Stegen, currently on loan to Girona until June 30, arrived this afternoon at the Barcelona club facilities at Spotify Camp Nou to participate in the club's presidential elections, despite currently suffering from an injury.

The newspaper explained that the German goalkeeper was the first football player to appear at the club's headquarters on election day, but he was initially unable to vote after it was found that his name was not listed in the electoral register.

According to the newspaper, Ter Stegen, along with his advisors, tried to resolve this issue by reviewing documents related to his status, but it was not possible to solve the matter at that moment.

The German goalkeeper joined Barcelona in the summer of 2014, approximately 12 years ago, and is considered one of the prominent names in the team's history in recent years.

The report also noted that the interim president of Barcelona, Rafa Yuste, cast his vote in the elections that will determine the club's next president, while also sending a message to club members urging them to participate in this day, which is considered important for the future of the Catalan institution.

It is expected that the first team players of Barcelona and the technical staff will cast their votes after the team's match against Sevilla, scheduled for 5:15 PM Cairo time, as it was initially planned to vote in the morning before being postponed to after the match for security and organizational reasons.
