Spanish Federation Announces 13-Match Suspension for Zaragoza Goalkeeper
Wednesday 29-04-2026
In an incident that sparked widespread controversy in Spanish football, Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada of Real Zaragoza received a severe penalty after assaulting a Huesca player during the derby match between the two teams about a week ago.

The Spanish Football Federation decided to suspend Andrada for 13 matches, with 12 matches for the direct assault on Jorge Pulido, in addition to one match due to the red card after receiving two yellow cards.

In the final moments of the match, the goalkeeper lost his temper, approached Pulido after his dismissal, and then ran towards him and delivered a strong punch to the face, causing a bruise on the left cheek, which was documented in the referee's report and was a decisive factor in the severity of the punishment.

The penalties also extended to other players, with Dani Jiménez, Huesca's goalkeeper, being suspended for 4 matches due to his involvement in the events following the incident, while Tasende, a Zaragoza player, received a two-match suspension.

The Disciplinary Committee considered Andrada's actions to include aggravating factors, most notably the assault occurring after play had stopped, his deliberate movement towards the opposing player, the use of excessive force causing a clear injury, and inciting mass brawls among the players.

For his part, Andrada issued a public apology immediately after the match, addressing his message to his club, its fans, and Pulido, expressing deep regret for his actions, before renewing his apology privately through a direct message to Huesca's captain in an attempt to contain the crisis.

This incident underscores the strictness of the governing bodies in dealing with violent behavior on the field, especially in professional competitions, to uphold the values of fair play and player safety.
