Rossignol: We Controlled the Game Initially, But Lacked Offensive Sharpness
Saturday 14-03-2026
Liam Rosenior, the manager of Chelsea, spoke about his team's 1-0 loss to Newcastle United in their Premier League match, emphasizing that his team lacked the sharpness and mental freshness needed to secure the win.

Rossignol said in his statements after the match: "It is a feeling of frustration. During the first 15 to 20 minutes, we controlled the game and presented a wave of attacking intentions."

He continued: "But we conceded a very poor goal after losing focus while pressing. They played a direct pass through the middle of the field and scored the first goal, which gave them something to hold onto."

He added: "After that, the rest of the match became an attack versus defense. Credit must be given to Newcastle and their coach Eddie Howe, as they defended their lead and were content to fall back."

He explained: "We didn't have the mental sharpness that would have helped us break through their defense, and ultimately, that's what cost us the match today."

Rosenior continued his speech by saying: "We reached the final third of the pitch many times, but without having the real sharpness in finishing the attacks."

He added, "We created opportunities, but we weren't decisive enough to capitalize on them."

He concluded his remarks by saying: "Every time the ball went into the penalty area, it would fall behind one of our players, or they would succeed in clearing it. We had chances, but overall there was a lack of attacking sharpness, and this is something we need to work on improving."
