Conte: I Want to Continue with Napoli, and This is What We Aspire To
Saturday 14-03-2026
Antonio Conte, the head coach of Napoli, spoke after his team's 2-1 victory over Lecce in the match held at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium as part of the Italian league competition, which was decided by Rasmus Højlund and Matteo Politano.

At the beginning of his speech, Conte said: "I am not someone who looks at statistics or reads much about such matters; I prefer to focus on the work that needs to be done."

He continued: "Nevertheless, discovering a points rate of 2.21 and surpassing top coaches is something that can only fill me with satisfaction. As it is always said: onwards and upwards."

The Napoli coach addressed the moment when player Banda experienced a health issue during the match, saying: "I was preparing for how we would move in executing the free kick, then I saw him fall to the ground. I became worried when he placed his hands on his chest."

He added, "I hope Panda is okay and recovers quickly, because we're talking about a good player and a respectable young man. I also know that his wife is pregnant, and I wish him and his family all the best."

Conte also spoke about the condition of his players and the tactical options in midfield, saying: "I believe one of the midfielders should be Gilmour or Lobotka alongside a player capable of moving forward."

He added: "Having players who attack a lot like Anguissa and McTominay might reduce the balance, but during the match, things could change."

The Napoli coach clarified the situation of players returning from injuries, saying: "There are players who have been absent for several months, and we cannot expect them to immediately return to their best physical condition."

He added, "They are strong players, but they need to be given time to adapt again."

He continued: "I told the players to trust what I see, because the goal is Napoli's interest. At the end of the first half, I made two substitutions and I take responsibility for that."

He added: "Whether a player plays 90 minutes or just one second, everyone must do their part, because we have to work for Napoli's interest and achieve qualification for the Champions League."

He concluded his remarks by saying, "My family and I feel very comfortable here. I have a desire to continue, but I know I carry high expectations. I must finish the season in first or second place."
