French Defender Issa Diop Decides to Represent the Moroccan National Team
Saturday 14-03-2026
The French defender of Moroccan descent, Issa Diop, has chosen to represent the Moroccan national football team, ending a period of anticipation regarding his international future. His name had been among those sought by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to strengthen the ranks of the "Atlas Lions."

Diop's decision, the Fulham player, to play for Morocco is based on his Moroccan roots from his mother's side. It is worth noting that he previously represented French youth teams from under-16 up to the hope team, without playing any official matches with the French senior national team.

Diop is expected to be a valuable addition to the Moroccan national team's defense, given the experience he gained in the English Premier League, both during his time with West Ham United and currently with Fulham, where he has played several matches this season across various competitions.

According to available sources, the player has begun the procedures related to changing his sports nationality to become legally eligible to wear the Moroccan national team jersey in official competitions. This process is being followed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation in preparation for its completion soon.

If these procedures are completed in a short time, it is expected that the national coach, Mohamed Wahbi, will invite Diop to join the Moroccan national team's camp, paving the way for his first appearance in the "Atlas Lions" jersey.
