Officially: Arbeloa fined £25,000 for comments against refereeing
The FA has officially fined Spanish manager Álvaro Arbeloa of Fulham £25,000 and issued a formal warning due to his comments that questioned the integrity of refereeing following his team's match against Manchester United in the Premier League.
The incident dates back to the match between the two teams on September 20, which ended in a 1-1 draw, after Matheus Cunha scored the equaliser for Manchester United in the 89th minute, denying Fulham the victory.
After the match, Arbeloa expressed his anger at some refereeing decisions, stating that all decisions were in favor of Manchester United. He added that he knew after the team's match against Manchester City that the referees would not allow United to lose, referring to the refereeing controversy that surrounded the previous derby encounter.
The English Football Association has stated that the Spanish coach's comments included hints of bias from referees, which was considered a questioning of the integrity of the match officials.
Arbeloa has admitted to the alleged violation, leading the independent regulatory committee to impose a financial penalty and issue him an official warning, without announcing any suspension from his coaching duties.
