Saturday 14-03-2026
Olympique Marseille secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over their guest Auxerre in the French league, in a match characterized by long periods of weak performance at the Stade Vélodrome.

The southern team experienced a clear slump at the beginning, amid tense atmospheres from the fans who expressed their dissatisfaction with the team's results this season.

The fans expressed their anger through banners and silent protest during the first half, in response to a series of disappointments, especially after the recent exit from the French Cup. The first 45 minutes did not witness any shots on target from either team, in a lackluster first half that offered little to the attending fans.

In the second half, Marseille tried to improve their image, and after some modest attempts, the Algerian striker Amine Gouiri managed to score the only goal of the match in the 79th minute after the ball rebounded inside the penalty area, granting his team three valuable points.

This victory allowed Marseille to strengthen its third position in the French league standings, keeping its hopes alive for direct qualification to the UEFA Champions League despite the team's inconsistent season. Meanwhile, Auxerre, in sixteenth place, continues to struggle in the battle for survival, with increasing pressure in the coming weeks.
