Fofana: We Made Costly Mistakes Against Paris, But We Still Have Hope for the Return Leg
Thursday 12-03-2026
Frenchman Wesley Fofana, Chelsea's defender, expressed his disappointment after his team lost to Paris Saint-Germain 5-2 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16, asserting that the mistakes made by his team were the main reason for this result.

Fofana said in his statements after the match: "At this level, we are not allowed to make such mistakes. We made serious errors, and every time we made a mistake, the opponent punished us."

He continued: "The last goal came at the end of the match, and there was some congestion after a clash with Pedro Neto and one of the ball boys. We lost our focus at that moment. We tried to press, but we conceded the fifth goal, which is a very painful goal."

He added, "We made a lot of mistakes today, and they took full advantage of them. They are a great team, and they demonstrated that this evening, so we are very disappointed."

He continued: "We do not hide; rather, we take on a lot of risks in our style of play. Sometimes, as happened today, we pay the price for that, but we train every day to try to minimize mistakes as much as possible."

He concluded: "It's not over yet. As long as there's a second leg, there's hope. We'll be playing at home, and we need to score at least three goals to go into extra time. We'll give it our all; we have nothing to lose, and we'll try to score the three goals to qualify."
