Garcia: We Must Learn from Atletico Encounter Mistakes, and I Feel Happy in Barcelona
Monday 09-03-2026
Juan Garcia, Barcelona's goalkeeper, spoke about his team's preparations for the upcoming match against Newcastle United, as part of the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, during a press conference held before the anticipated encounter.

Garcia said: 'A lot was said during the summer, but when Barcelona's name came up, my decision was clear from the start. Did I receive any contact after that? No, I am very calm here in Barcelona.'

Regarding the future of the club's sporting director, Deco, Garcia stated: 'I haven't thought about this matter, nor have my teammates. We are focused only on what we are competing for at the moment.'

Concerning preparations for the upcoming match, the Barcelona keeper said: 'I repeat that playing here before helps us, but we must be extremely focused and match the opponent's high pace.'

He added: 'They try to press a lot and rely heavily on their physical strength. We did that already in the 2-1 victory, but we have to repeat it and improve on what we didn't do as required.'

On his personal development throughout the season, Garcia mentioned: 'I try to improve certain things every day, and I had to develop my style of play. I hope to be a better goalkeeper by the end of the season.'

He continued: 'It's good that we played here before, as it helps us get to know the opponent and the field, but we know they will enter the match with great intensity, so we must be cautious.'

Garcia also addressed the issue of past mistakes, saying: 'I said after the Atletico Madrid match that we would learn from the mistakes. We are a young team and have understood that, we've taken a step forward in recent matches, and we've been pressing better. When we are well organized, we benefit from it, and we've used the past two weeks well in work and training.'

Regarding the atmosphere surrounding the club, Garcia said: 'The electoral noise does not affect us at all. We are only focused on playing, we enter the match with great enthusiasm, and we know there is a return leg, but we are sure they will enter with all their strength, and we have to learn from the cup encounter against Atletico Madrid, where we paid the price for what happened in the first leg.'
