Inter Milan Fails to Break Milan's Defense, Loses the Derby
Monday 09-03-2026
Inter Milan coach, Cristian Chivu, admitted that his team failed to break through AC Milan's defensive block during the Milan Derby, which ended with Inter losing 1-0, as part of the 28th round of Serie A.

Inter had the opportunity to widen the gap at the top during this match, but the loss reduced their lead from ten points to just seven.

The coach said: "The first half was below the required level with a slow pace, then we conceded a goal which was a blow to us. We tried to increase the pace after the break and created a good chance through Federico Dimarco, but we tried in every way to penetrate Milan's compact defense without success."

Regarding the reason for not relying more on crosses, the coach explained: "We reached the end line several times, but without clear opportunities, and the crosses were easily cleared because we couldn't advance in front of the defenders."

Kivo pointed out that his team lacked vitality in their movements, explaining that Milan retreated and waited for counter-attacks, adding: "We need to improve our performance and increase the tempo in the upcoming matches."

Before this match, Inter had maintained an unbeaten record in the league since the last derby against Milan on November 23, achieving 14 victories and one draw against Napoli with a score of 2-2.

Kifo added in his speech: "We could have performed better. The two strikers are young and did not deliver what we usually expect from forwards, but that is no excuse. I am pleased with what they tried to offer, as this is an important experience for them."

The coach also commented on the controversial moment in the final minutes when the ball hit Denzel Dumfries' head and then Samuel Ricci's hand, but he confirmed that the referee deemed it a natural position after reviewing the video technology.

He concluded by saying, "I was informed that the video technology reviewed the footage, so I have nothing to add. My focus now is on performance, my decisions, and my mistakes. We still have ten matches and 30 points available, and we have a lead of seven points. Even if we had won tonight, nothing significant would have changed in the race."
