Flamengo Dismisses Felipe Luis
Tuesday 03-03-2026
In a surprising move, Flamengo Club announced the dismissal of their coach, Filipe Luís, just hours after a sweeping 8-0 victory over Madureira, a win that secured the team a spot in the Rio de Janeiro State Championship final.

The 40-year-old coach, who previously played for Atlético Madrid and Chelsea, is leaving his position despite overseeing one of the most prominent periods in the club's history in terms of results and titles.

The decision to dismiss came following the start of a season described as the worst for the team in years, especially after the loss to Corinthians in the Brazilian Super Cup, followed by the defeat to Lanús in the Recopa Sudamericana last month.

Felipe Luis took over as team leader in late 2024 and succeeded in winning five titles in a short period, including the Brazil Cup in 2024, followed by the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian league in the following season.

The team was also close to achieving a global feat two months ago when they held Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-1 draw in the final of the Club World Cup in Qatar, before losing in a penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Matvey Safonov saving four attempts.

The coach led Flamengo in 101 matches, achieving 63 wins, 23 draws, and 15 losses, with a success rate of 69.9 percent. However, five of those losses occurred in 2026, bringing an end to his tenure with the team despite his remarkable record.
