Aston Villa Targets Bringing Emerson Royal Back to the Premier League

Aston Villa has entered negotiations with Brazilian club Flamengo to sign right-back Emerson Royal during the current summer transfer window, in a move that could bring the player back to the Premier League two years after his departure from the competition.

According to reports, Aston Villa has contacted Flamengo and made an offer worth approximately 9 million euros (around 53 million Brazilian reals) to acquire the services of the 27-year-old Brazilian defender.

Emerson Royal has previous experience in England, having played for Tottenham Hotspur between 2021 and 2024, before moving to AC Milan in Italy, and then returning to Brazil through Flamengo in the summer of 2025.

Aston Villa's management sees Royal as a suitable option to strengthen the right-back position and provide competition for defender Matty Cash, especially with the team's participation in European competitions next season. Sources indicate that talks between the two clubs are advanced, but a final agreement has not yet been reached.

Royal is considered one of the well-known names in European football, having previously represented clubs such as Barcelona, Real Betis, Tottenham, and Milan, in addition to his international appearances with the Brazilian national team.
