Kivu: Qualification is Still Open, Bastoni Apologized and the Matter is Closed
Saturday 21-02-2026
Christian Kivu, the coach of Inter Milan, confirmed that his team deserved the victory against Lecce, emphasizing that the return leg in the Champions League playoff against Bodo/Glimt is still open, and defended Bastoni after the boos he received.

Kivu said: "We wanted to take advantage of set pieces, we got a lot of them today, and it's unfortunate that we didn't execute them better in the first half. We have players who know how to attack spaces, and above all, an exceptional left foot from Vidic knows how to put the ball in the right place."

The coach continued his talk about the Champions League match, saying: "We are aware of the difficulties, and we know that we have to earn everything on the field, and we cannot take anything for granted. We have the return match at home on Tuesday, and we must present the best version of ourselves, because qualification is still open, nothing has been decided yet."

Regarding the boos against Bastoni, Kivu said: "For me, the matter is closed. I appreciate the professionalism of this defender and this man. He realized his mistake and apologized for what happened, and he knows very well that the team comes first. For me, the issue is closed."

Regarding Marcus Thuram's performance in the absence of Lautaro Martinez, he said: "I have 24 great players who all try to make their contribution. I liked Marcus Thuram today, he ran a lot, played with his back to the goal, and held the ball well."

He continued: "Davide Frattesi also played a great match, everyone is involved, focused, and making their contribution to the team."

Kivu revealed developments in Denzel Dumfries' physical condition, saying: "Denzel participated with us in some training sessions in recent weeks, but he did not train this week due to travel. He will officially be with the rest of the team starting Monday, I think Oğuzhan will be too."
