Royal Army Prepares to Face Pyramids in Cairo, Requests Security Guarantees from CAF
Saturday 21-02-2026
The draw for the quarter-finals of the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League resulted in an intense match-up between AS FAR and Pyramids, repeating last season's encounter which ended with the Moroccan team's elimination.

However, the calculations of the match go beyond the mere desire for redemption, encompassing organizational and security considerations before the anticipated return leg in Cairo.

The management of the Royal Army recalls the riots that accompanied the team's match against Egypt's Al Ahly in the group stage, which witnessed tension after the end at Cairo International Stadium. This prompted the management to previously contact the Confederation of African Football to demand clarifications and guarantees, making the encounter with Pyramids surrounded by heightened caution.

According to what was published by the newspaper "Al-Akhbar," the management of the Royal Army is taking a proactive approach to the upcoming return match scheduled for March 20, 21, or 22. They are opening early coordination channels with CAF and the relevant Egyptian authorities to ensure the team's accommodation and transportation are secured, in addition to tightening measures inside and around the stadium before and after the final whistle.

The security plan for the military club includes enhancing security around the residence, securing special routes for the entry and exit of players, and appointing security monitors accredited by the continental federation to oversee the organization, with the host club bearing full responsibility for adhering to the terms of the agreement.

On the technical side, Portuguese coach Alexander Santos focuses on the mental aspect of the players by preparing them to handle potential pressures in Cairo, with clear instructions to concentrate on their performance on the field.

The Royal Army aims to approach the confrontation with calm and balanced rhetoric, without escalation, while simultaneously insisting on the team's right to ensure the highest level of protection for its delegation during their stay in Cairo.
