Iraqi football fans praised the outstanding performance of star Peter Korkis, a player for Dohuk and the Iraqi national team, following his remarkable recent levels, particularly the fantastic goal he scored against Al-Gharaf in the Iraqi Stars League, which ended with Al-Gharaf winning 4-3 in an exciting and goal-filled match.
Korkis scored the third goal for his team and directly contributed to the creation of two other goals, making him a crucial part of Dohuk's performance during the match, earning wide praise from fans and those interested in Iraqi football.
In this regard, former Iraqi player Arkan Najib said in an exclusive statement to winwin: “Honestly, I don’t know how a player with the level and capabilities of Peter Korkis is overlooked and excluded from the national team, even missing the chance to participate in the Arab Cup. Unfortunately, some decisions we do not understand how they are made by those responsible for the team.”
Najib explained: “The first Asian playoff against Saudi Arabia witnessed the call-up of a player who has not delivered any notable level for four years, was under great pressure, and without real effectiveness, while young names like Marco Faraj and Muntadhar Al-Majid were excluded and placed on the bench, which is shocking and incomprehensible.”
Arkan Najib confirmed: “What is worrying is the continuation of some analysts demanding the call-up of the same names, despite the absence of results, numbers, and actual impact on the field. Football is not measured by running alone, but by actual contribution, decisiveness, and making a difference. Therefore, the national team’s technical staff must reconsider their convictions regarding some players.”
Najib concluded his talk by saying: “Peter Korkis is just a model, and there are many players in the Iraqi Stars League and beyond who deserve the opportunity more than others. I hope the global playoff list is based on justice and competence, away from flattery or narrow calculations, because the current stage cannot tolerate any error in selection, and Korkis should be given the opportunity he deserves due to his individual solutions and ability to make a difference.”
