Friday 20-02-2026
Steve Calzada, the CEO of Al Hilal Club, sparked widespread controversy after discussing the possibility of the team participating in the UEFA Champions League one day.

In an interview with "AS" newspaper, Calzada explained that he left Manchester City after 12 years of work in search of an ambitious project, considering Al Hilal as one of the largest and most influential clubs in Asia.

He pointed out that the club has achieved significant economic growth over the past two years, with its revenues doubling, bringing it close to the list of the top 20 European clubs in terms of financial returns.

He emphasized that the absence of income tax in Saudi Arabia gives clubs a higher competitive edge compared to many European teams, which helps attract international stars.

Regarding the idea of Al-Hilal participating in the UEFA Champions League, he said it is not impossible, pointing out that the recent FIFA Club World Cup provided the team with a global platform to prove its capabilities.

He also commented on the rumors of signing Vinicius Junior, affirming that discussions about big stars are natural, especially after prominent names like Karim Benzema joined the Saudi league.
