De Zerbi: We Suffered a Painful Defeat, and We Will Discuss to Find Solutions
Monday 09-02-2026
Roberto De Zerbi, the head coach of Marseille, appeared after the heavy 5-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the 21st round of the French league, expressing his pain over the repeated negative results of the team, and confirming that he will discuss with the management ways to overcome the crisis.

De Zerbi said: "It's a period where we performed well against Rennes and Lens, and then comes complete despair. I once again ask for forgiveness from the fans. We will talk with Benatia and Longoria to understand what we can do, because these defeats are painful, especially in Paris, and particularly in this manner."

The Marseille coach continued: "I'm not inside the players' minds, I don't know what's happening. We contained the match perfectly, but clearly, we didn't contain it well enough. We need to understand the reason. Why do we go to Bruges and play a match like that? Why do we come to Paris and play a match like that? And why do we play completely different matches against Lens and Rennes?"

De Zerbi added: "No, I have no regrets about my lineup, because I believe there's nothing significant to salvage from this match. When many players perform inadequately, there's nothing to regret."

He concluded: "We don't need to talk when we lose in this manner; we must look within ourselves and think that we could have done better."
