Fernandez: I Meant My Goal, We Shouldn't Overdo the Celebration
Saturday 07-02-2026
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes appeared in a press statement following the 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the 25th round of the English Premier League.

The player said about his goal: "I think if you play the ball with your foot, there's a high chance it will rise a lot because it bounces. Some people will say I didn't mean the goal, but I actually did because I knew the ball would go straight to the ground, so I just had to shoot it."

Regarding the importance of the second goal: "We needed to secure the match. We knew we were very much in control of the game, but anything could change at any moment. They have exceptional attacking players who can make a significant difference for them."

He added, "We could have scored one or two more goals, but it's not easy to play against a compact defense. They were very cohesive and aggressive and defended excellently even when they were playing with only ten players."

He elaborated on the team's performance: "When we win matches, our confidence grows more and more. It's very important to stay focused and not over-celebrate now. This is a great feeling, but it's just the beginning and we must continue. If we don't win the next match and the one after that, you'll return to the same uncomfortable situation, lose confidence, and find it difficult to believe in everything you've done so far."

He concluded in the same context: "So far, we have executed well everything that Michael Carrick and the coaching staff have asked of us, and we have shown the courage to take responsibility at certain moments in the match to play and do everything necessary to win. The main focus now is the upcoming match. We have four consecutive wins, and that feels great, but we need to make it five now."
