Rossignol: Arsenal Was Aware of This, and This Is What We Must Do
Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior appeared in a press conference following the 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final, noting that the first leg ended with a 3-2 victory for the Gunners, resulting in the Blues' exit from the competition.
The coach said in his speech: "We controlled the areas we wanted to control in the second half, but we didn't find the right opportunity. When you press hard as we did, we placed both defenders inside the penalty area, and in the final minutes of injury time, it was possible that we could have conceded a goal."
He added: "Arsenal knew they would face a tough match today, in both legs. I think there is a clear improvement from the first leg to the second. Yes, the loss is painful - we all want to qualify. We just have to keep improving - which is what I see."
He emphasized: "Is there any regret about the first leg? In the first leg, I'm not making excuses, but we suffered from illness in the team camp on the day of the match - we were missing four players - and I had taken responsibility just three days earlier. I cannot blame the players for their dedication, enthusiasm, or fighting spirit."
He concluded: "What we need to do is remember that this is just the beginning, and I am very happy with many of the things I see." You want to achieve results - but we need to ensure we get rest and recovery, and continue to improve over time."
