Arbeloa: Winning is Important Tomorrow for the Title Race, and This is What We Wanted and Sought
Saturday 31-01-2026
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Rayo Vallecano in the 22nd round of La Liga, taking place at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The coach said in his speech: "It is extremely important and essential in our battle for the La Liga title that we win tomorrow against a team that is always difficult to face. Everyone understands the difficulty of the match they will face tomorrow, so we are focusing on doing our utmost to secure the three points."

He added: "I expect the Santiago Bernabéu to support the team, just as it did in our last home game. I always ask for their support because we are stronger with them. We need them if we want to stay in the title race. When we are united, we have seen what we are capable of, as we saw against Monaco, and with them by our side, everything becomes much easier."

He emphasized, "We are working hard to achieve the continuity we desire. It is a time for work, nothing more. There is no time for joy or disappointment. I have been here for 18 or 19 days, and we have barely had the chance to work because we have matches every three days. After tomorrow's match, we will have time to do so."

Regarding resting Vinicius Junior, Bellingham, Mbappe, and Courtois: "I always want the best players on the field, and the more minutes they play with the team, the better. They are players capable of changing the course of the match at any moment, and Real Madrid fans always want their best players ready to participate. They may be among the best in the world. I trust them, and their outstanding performance has earned them a place in the starting lineup."

Regarding the increased participation of Carvajal and Ceballos: "For Dani Carvajal, the main goal is continuity in training and getting playing minutes without setbacks. I want to progress calmly and patiently, but we need more time. As for Ceballos... we all know his abilities and capabilities. He is a player with an important profile and will have a significant role until the end of the season."

He continued: "Mbappé said that what happened against Benfica is not a matter of quality or tactics, but of desire. What is your opinion? We are working to find solutions. This is not a time for frustration or euphoria, just a time for work. We work a lot and analyze a lot to know what needs to be done to achieve continuity. And I believe we will succeed in that, but we need time to work, naturally."

He added regarding facing Mourinho once again in the playoff qualifying for the Champions League round of 16: "I'm only thinking about tomorrow's match."

He stated: "Is Real Madrid close or far from your footballing idea? Neither close nor far... We haven't had much time. Despite my great gratitude for the players' reception and commitment, it takes time. No matter how much we explain, true understanding happens on the field. We are excited for this period to work, and I have great confidence. We have two weeks to work on all levels... and this is what we wanted and were looking for. We have 18 or 19 days, and there will be time with the players to improve and develop. This is what will come after tomorrow's match."

He added, "Do you feel that the loss against Benfica has brought you back to square one? No. We are thinking about Rayo, and we are aware of the difficulty and demands of the match. Our only focus is to continue improving and developing, knowing that everyone's level must be very high to win every match. This doesn't happen just to us, but to any team. If you want to win, you must be at your best both collectively and individually."

He continued: "What did you learn from facing Albacete and Benfica? Do you regret any decision? No, regret is a dead end. I try to learn when things don't go well. That's my way. To know where I can improve, and as I told the players, I will inevitably make mistakes sometimes."

He concluded: "What message did you send to the locker room? I understand your desire to know, but it remains between me and the players."
