Carrick: This is the Secret of the Team's Transformation, and We Are Just at the Beginning
Sunday 25-01-2026
Manchester United coach Michael Carrick appeared in press statements following the 3-2 victory over Arsenal in the 23rd round of the English Premier League at the Emirates Stadium.

The coach said in his talk: "We knew the start of the match would be like this, no matter how much we tried to turn the momentum in our favor. We understood how the game would flow and its rhythm. I think we started to control the ball and create better connections across the field, showing calmness, with some moments that gave us extra confidence."

He added: "We were going through a good period and started to get into the atmosphere of the match when they scored their goal, which was disappointing. But once again, we showed strong character to come back. There are stages in the match where you have to defend, and they force you to defend inside the box, which is sometimes difficult, but I felt we had enough to continue believing in ourselves, and I was always confident in our ability to score."

He added: "Today, away from home, we had to create our own energy among us, and our fans in the stands were amazing. Playing away requires understanding the stages of the match and how it will develop, and having patience and discipline at the right time. We handled the ball well at many points, played forward with great positivity, and we reaped the rewards of that. Only 10 days have passed, and we know things won't be perfect. You can't expect to come here and completely control the ball. We are just at the beginning, and this is a good start, but we need to add more details and improvements, and we will try to do that in the coming weeks."

Regarding how he transformed the team, he said: "I give a lot of credit to the technical staff and players for the amount of commitment and work they have put in, and how convinced they are of the idea. It's easy to try to help them with words, but the most important thing is for them to live it on the ground, and they have done so indeed. You can see this through the players coming off the bench; there is a clear collective feeling. It's great when things come together and everyone is in the same direction, and we celebrate with the fans in the end. It's an important and big moment. My kids were in the stands, and they are no longer young, which is touching in itself. The passion and enthusiasm in such matches, and coming out victorious, is wonderful."

He concluded regarding his desire to continue as the team's coach after the current season: "I am enjoying what I am doing. It's a great position to be in. What will happen later I won't answer every week. I am enjoying it, and I will continue to do what I can."
