An Official Iraqi Offer on Sergio Ramos' Table
Tuesday 20-01-2026
Journalistic sources revealed that the veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos, former Real Madrid star, has received an official offer from one of the clubs competing for the Iraqi Stars League title during the current winter transfer window, in a move considered one of the boldest in the history of the competition.

This comes as Ramos (39 years old) is currently not affiliated with any club after his contract with the Mexican team Monterrey ended on January 1, 2026, making him a free agent open to negotiations with any club.

Special sources confirmed that the management of Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya Club has entered serious consideration to try to sign the Spanish star, as part of their efforts to strengthen the defense line and enhance the team's ranks with an element possessing great international experience, capable of making a clear difference in the Falcons' defensive system during the upcoming phase.

The sources added that coach Rashid Jaber informed the club’s management of his need for a high-caliber defender with leadership qualities on the field, which prompted the management to turn to a name of the magnitude of Sergio Ramos, despite the complexity and financial and technical difficulties of the deal.

The sources pointed out that Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya management is awaiting the Spanish player's response within the next few hours after contact was made through an intermediary, amid great hopes of obtaining his approval, especially since the offer presented is considered high financially and extends until the end of the current season, which may be an attractive factor for the player at this stage of his career.

The sources indicated that the Falcons' management places great reliance on the role of the Spanish La Liga Association, as it currently supervises the Iraqi Stars League championship. It is expected that Ramos will inquire about the nature of the competition, the level of organization, and the football environment in Iraq, making the position of the Spanish association an influential factor in completing the deal.

In the same context, the sources clarified that Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya is not putting all its cards in one basket, as it has already started extensive moves to strengthen the team after completing the procedures to sign Kuwaiti national player Eid Al-Rashidi, along with working on other deals in case the Ramos deal fails if no final agreement is reached.

It is worth mentioning that Sergio Ramos has a rich professional career, having defended the colors of major clubs including Sevilla, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and most recently Monterrey in Mexico, since starting his career with Sevilla’s first team in 2004, making him one of the most experienced and influential defenders in world football.
