Baldi: We Trust in Qualifying Among the Top Eight, and Barcelona Does Not Rely on One Player
Tuesday 20-01-2026
Alejandro Baldi, Barcelona player, confirmed his team's great ambition in the UEFA Champions League, emphasizing the importance of competing for all titles and discussing several issues concerning the team in media statements before facing Slavia Prague in the previous round of the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League group stage.

Baldi spoke about the qualification race: "Of course, we have chances, we are Barcelona and we must always win, with great confidence. If we play as we did on Sunday, we will win and things will go excellently."

He continued talking about continental ambition, saying: "We have a strong desire; the Champions League is the tournament every player dreams of participating in and winning. We are Barcelona and must compete for all titles, and our idea is to win them, but we have to take it match by match. First, we want to be among the top eight."

He added about the tough conditions: "I don't like the cold at all, but it's not an excuse. We must stay focused on the match, and if we deliver what we always do and maintain our level, we will secure the three points."

Baldi continued discussing the Anoeta match: "Today we will analyze the match because these schedules don’t leave much time to do many things. It’s one match out of a thousand; you lose one of them. We played one of the best matches of the season, but sometimes luck is not on your side, and I am confident that if we continue on this path, everything will go well."

He commented regarding refereeing: "These are decisions we cannot do anything about, very delicate situations full of doubts, but they are external matters. We focus only on playing, and the referee’s decisions must be respected."

He continued about conceding goals: "There are always things to improve. We might concede more goals, but we score a lot. The most important thing is winning, and we are currently in very good form, coming off winning the Super Cup, and we are leading in La Liga."

He clarified his position on the defeat at Stamford Bridge: "I think in that match we were not at our best and lacked great confidence. Losing 3-0 is always tough. We know we can perform better. We always talk inside the dressing room, and now we are at a high level of confidence and doing great work."

He added about playing in his position: "It’s true that in recent years I have played more on the wing, but you have to adapt to all circumstances, and I feel comfortable with everyone."

Baldi touched on competition within the team: "Any player who comes to help is important. Cancelo is a great player, with great quality and wide experience, and he will help the young players. Competition is always a positive thing."

Regarding the national team and the World Cup, he said: "In the end, I think all players play to reach the national team. This is every player's dream. It’s true I haven’t participated for two years, but I work and strive daily to get a chance to return."

He also spoke about Ter Stegen, clarifying: "He spoke with the team this morning. He is a very big reference. I grew up watching him in the first team, then he became my captain. I wish him success, and I am sure he will perform well and regain his confidence after the injury. I wish him all the best."

Baldi concluded his statements by talking about Lamine Yamal, saying: "He is a player with great quality, and it is always good to have him with us. But we are Barcelona, and we cannot rely on just one player. Whoever participates will perform their role perfectly."
