Tebas Clarifies La Liga's Position on the Negreira Case and Criticizes Real Madrid
Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League Association, confirmed that the Negreira case filed legally was not initiated by Real Madrid, but rather by La Liga and the Public Prosecutor's Office. Tebas considered the royal club's use of the case unacceptable.
Tebas said: "Now they are talking about the Negreira case, which is legally filed, and not by Real Madrid, but by La Liga and the Public Prosecutor's Office. We were the first to start the procedures."
He added: "It is not acceptable to blame Negreira for the error in awarding a penalty last Sunday. It seems there is a strategy to cause harm."
Regarding the integrity of referees, Tebas explained: "Referees are not corrupt, they may make mistakes and need improvement, but they are not corrupt. Negreira was bad for Spanish football, but he is no longer on the refereeing technical committee. Yes, refereeing needs improvement, a committee was formed for that and Real Madrid was invited, but they did not attend. They want to destroy the competition."
About his relationship with Florentino Pérez, Tebas said: "It is natural that this change happened after Barcelona withdrew from the Super League, and then the intense attack began. This is an attempt to apply pressure. When you are with us, matters are kept quiet, and when you are not, they are revealed."
He continued: "Real Madrid's usual strategy includes filing lawsuits against UEFA, the league, and Barcelona. If we are not careful, the situation will be bad. You are either with them or against them."
Tebas concluded his statements affirming his independence of opinion: "It would be easy for me to go to the Bernabéu and tell him to establish the Super League, but I will not do that. I will continue to say what I believe."
