Mohamed Salah: We Were the Best Against Benin, and We Managed to Win in the End
Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool and the Egyptian national team, confirmed that the Pharaohs' level was close to that of the Benin team, but the national team was better throughout the match.
The Egyptian team defeated Benin 3-1 in the round of 16 to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Salah said in a television statement after the match: "We are physically better than the opposing team and we managed to win in the end."
He added: "There are no teams in the Africa Cup of Nations that lose by four or five goals, so all matches are very difficult."
He continued: "Most players in the Egyptian national team play in the local league, and I never dreamed of participating at this level, and this is an honor for me."
