Egypt Defeats Benin and Advances to the Africa Cup of Nations Quarterfinals
The Egyptian national team succeeded in securing a 3-1 victory over the Benin national team in the match played this evening, Monday, at Adrar Stadium in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Marwan Attia scored Egypt's first goal in the 70th minute, then Godel Dossou equalized for Benin in the 83rd minute, ending the regular time with a 1-1 draw, leading both teams to extra time.
In the 97th minute of the first extra half, Yasser Ibrahim scored Egypt's second goal with a wonderful header, while Mohamed Salah added the third goal in the 120+4th minute after a quick counterattack.
With this win, the Pharaohs succeeded in qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals.
Egypt is scheduled to face the winner of the Côte d'Ivoire vs. Burkina Faso match, which is set for tomorrow, Tuesday, at 9:00 PM Cairo time, in the quarterfinals.
