McFarlane: Chelsea's Training is Great, and This is What We Showed
Callum McFarlane, the interim coach of Chelsea, appeared in a press statement following the 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the twentieth round of the English Premier League.
The coach said: "We delivered an exceptional performance in the second half. The first half did not go as we planned, which is normal when facing a team of this level. They played a bit differently, we fell back, and lost control."
He added: "We showed a lot of fighting spirit and resilience. The players absorbed the information well during halftime. We changed our playing style and adjusted the pressing, which allowed us to control the course of the match. We deserved at least a point."
Regarding the players' outstanding performance after Enzo Maresca's departure, he said: "This credit goes to the players. Imagine how they felt at halftime. Manchester City was by far the better team in the first half, especially with an interim coach, and with all the injuries we suffered and the changes we went through."
He continued: "The team leaders—Reece James, Enzo Fernandez, and Tosin Adarabioyo—put in tremendous effort. The team spirit is exceptional. Even the injured players all traveled together: Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, and Robert Sanchez. They were all united. They wished for the team's victory just as much as anyone else."
He concluded: "I will lead the team until I am asked otherwise. It is a great honor. I am very proud of the trust they have placed in me. A new coach will arrive soon. We have training tomorrow. I will participate in this training session unless instructed otherwise. It has been a wonderful occasion."
