Cunha: I Didn't Understand Why My Goal Was Disallowed, and It's Easy to Say We Want to Win
Manchester United star Matheus Cunha appeared in a press statement following the 1-1 draw against Leeds United in the 20th round of the Premier League.
The coach said: "Certainly, it's easy to say that we want to win every match, but of course, after drawing with Wolverhampton at Old Trafford, we had a negative feeling, and we wanted to change that, come back here, win, and move into the top four. Today, we have a similar feeling; we wanted to win but ended up drawing, so we have to give our best effort again."
He added: "I think the first half was good. We talked in the locker room about how to handle the pressure, and we tried to do something, but we didn't create many chances. In the second half, we scored a goal, and I think that was due to a lack of focus from everyone, but we scored again after three minutes, and that gave us the energy to try for more."
Regarding his disallowed goal: "Honestly, I don't understand. I spoke to the referee and asked him, 'Who was offside?' He said Ben [Cisco], I believe, but I don't remember him being involved in the play." Casemiro passed me the ball, and then I took the shot, so I'm not sure where Cisco was. It was a bit frustrating for me."
He continued talking about Zirkezzi: "It's a pleasure to play with Josh; he is a very talented player. His position isn't good, but he has the ability to change that. He needs to realize that, and we rely on him. We are here to push him forward. After his goal last week and his assist today, he will gain more confidence to be with us and perform his role to the fullest."
He concluded his remarks about the team's strength away from home: "This was an important point for us. We talked about resilience. Everyone knows how important the players who were absent today are, but we have a strong character in the team. We achieved that, and I hope we deliver a better performance in the next match."
