Real Madrid's stance on signing Bernardo Silva
Tuesday 06-01-2026
The website "Fichajes" confirmed that Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, the Manchester City star, has once again become the focus of the European transfer market. He was offered to Real Madrid in recent weeks, but the royal club officially decided to reject the deal.

This offer came directly from his agent, Jorge Mendes, who believes that Bernardo Silva could be a strong addition to Real Madrid's midfield next season, especially given his extensive experience and ability to perform in big matches. Additionally, he is available on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester City expires on June 30, and since January 1, he has been able to negotiate with any European club.

However, Real Madrid's decision was supported by the sports management and President Florentino Pérez for several reasons, the foremost being the player's age, as he has surpassed thirty. The club follows a policy of short-term contracts for veteran players, which does not align with the player's expectations.

Additionally, the management believes that Bernardo Silva's style of playing between the lines and delivering key passes does not align with the current tactical plan, which seeks a more organized and game-building midfielder. Furthermore, the presence of young players like Arda Güler and the potential return of Nico Paz reduce the opportunities for a senior player to join and increase the financial burden.

Based on these factors, Real Madrid decisively decided not to sign Bernardo Silva, focusing instead on finding a midfielder capable of making greater defensive sacrifices and supporting the team in the long term.
