Shobair Sends a Strong Message to Al-Khatib After Al-Ahly's Egypt Cup Exit
Sports broadcaster Ahmed Shobair sent a strong message to Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of Al-Ahly club, following the team's exit from the Egypt Cup.
Al-Ahly lost to Telecom Egypt 2-1 in the round of 32 of the Egypt Cup yesterday, Saturday, thus bowing out of the tournament.
Mahmoud Al-Khatib is currently in Morocco, where he attended Egypt's recent match against South Africa.
Ahmed Shobair said in a radio statement: "A message asking, is Captain Al-Khatib still in Morocco? Will he cut short his visit to Morocco and return to Al-Ahly to address what the team is going through? Yes, he is still in Morocco and he should of course return because what the team is going through and what is happening is not minor, and being eliminated from the Egypt Cup in such a humiliating way is not minor."
He continued: "If I were him, I would cut the trip short and return immediately because this is a time of crisis. You might also say the league is suspended and the only thing left is the Egypt Cup, and if he plays it with the youth players, why not play it with the senior players? Why keep them sitting? But of course, what happened is a very big event, Al-Ahly's loss to Telecom Egypt, and from my point of view, the matter is not easy at all."
