Former Al Ahly star and media personality Ahmed Shobier confirmed that Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egypt national team, chose Mohamed El-Shenawy as the starting goalkeeper because he trusts his extensive experience and status.

Shobeir added on his radio program on "On Sport" radio: "The coach is the first and final decision-maker, and he chooses whoever he sees as the most suitable from his perspective. Shobier continued: "This selection does not in any way mean belittling the other goalkeepers. On the contrary, we have Ahmed El-Shenawy, who is an outstanding goalkeeper with great capabilities, and Mostafa Shobier, a promising goalkeeper who is proving himself strongly, in addition to Mohamed Sobhi, who is delivering very good performances."
