Amorim: The Better Team Did Not Win, and This Is Bruno Fernandes' Situation
Monday 22-12-2025
Manchester United coach Rúben Amorim appeared in a press statement after the 2-1 loss against Aston Villa in the seventeenth round of the English Premier League.

The coach said: "I believe we were the better team today. We were unlucky, even with Bruno's injury, but during the match, even without him, we were the better team. We managed to stop their counterattacks well, while they put on a great performance. We played very well, but no one will remember that tomorrow because the result is what matters."

He added: "We knew in advance that Aston Villa plays with a strong defensive lineup, and we needed to take advantage of that situation. We trained accordingly. We tried different options, and we can use different starting formations depending on the match, so we are improving. Once again, I believe we deserved a much better result today, but the better team did not win."

Regarding Fernández's injury: "It's really strange. During this year, especially at this time, we've faced many problems, but we have to deal with them. I believe Fletcher played in his first match, which is good news, as well as Lassi, so we will try to find solutions and focus on the upcoming game. I think Fernández's injury is minor, so he will need some time to recover. We'll see."

He emphasized: "I have been a coach for six years, and even Sporting relies heavily on its academy because it's part of their history. Every coach wants to develop players from the academy rather than spending money, as this enhances their standing. All I want is to win, and I want to make sure that players coming from the academy don’t struggle too much. I’m just trying to help the club, whether the players are from the academy or from outside."

He added, "We need to prepare all the players for the upcoming match. We can't use any excuses. No one will remember these problems, so let's deal with them. This will make us stronger."

He concluded: "Since the beginning of the season, I have seen a team that pushes forward, but sometimes it slackens a bit, and other times it is not present at the right moment to compete. Today, the situation was completely different. We were the better team against a strong team on their home ground and in very good form. We were truly unlucky today."
