Simeone: We Delivered a Complete Match, and the Most Important Thing is Helping the Team
Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atlético Madrid, expressed his great happiness with his team's 3-0 win over Girona in the match held at Montilivi Stadium as part of the Spanish league competition.
Simeone said: "The players understood perfectly the kind of match we wanted to play, and we took the game to the place we planned. We pressed well and reduced the opportunities that the opponent could have had."
He continued: "The team delivered a complete performance, we controlled most of the playing time, and we always had the determination to seek scoring."
He added: "In football, everything that happens between the penalty areas may seem beautiful, but the truth is that the decisive moments are inside the boxes, and there we were strong. Offensively, we could have made better decisions in the first half, which would have given us the third goal."
Simeone went on to talk about Antoine Griezmann’s absence from the starting lineup, saying: "It was not an easy decision, especially after he scored a decisive goal against Valencia and two goals in the cup, but we saw that Sorloth and Alvarez have different characteristics for starting the match, and I was thinking of bringing Antoine on in the second half for the energy he could add."
He continued: "All players want to participate, and this is natural, but the most important thing is always to help the team and strengthen the group."
Simeone also spoke about Bobel: "Since his arrival, I saw him closer to playing as a center-back. We worked with him day by day, he waited for his chance, and he was humble and hardworking. Football ultimately rewards those who work hard."
Simeone concluded his statements regarding the substitution of Conor Gallagher by saying: "It was purely a tactical change according to what the team needed."
