Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso appeared at a press conference after the 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the seventeenth round of La Liga, at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

The coach said: "The priority was to win, although some things did not go as we expected, while other aspects were close to securing the victory. We earned the three points, and after the wins against Alavés and today, the current situation allows us to start 2026 well, and we are in a position that qualifies us to compete for all titles. Now we want to continue with the improvements we wish to make."

About the boos directed at Vinícius: "The fans have the right to express their opinions. It was a tough match given our current level. There are aspects we can improve, but I appreciate the team’s current situation amid the injuries we are facing. We will use this time to rest and start the year stronger. I greeted everyone, said goodbye, and we did not discuss the matter further."

He emphasized: "We need to improve in several aspects: whether we have possession or not, bringing a different character and rhythm to the game, combining control with direct effectiveness. Today, many players were absent, and the players put in tremendous effort, with many reaching their maximum energy limits. I am not satisfied with today’s performance because I know that in the future, when we regain our energy and players, we will be able to distribute effort more effectively and improve."

He continued: "Many factors come together. Today, nine players were absent, I believe, due to injuries and suspensions. This happens to us and other clubs in Europe. We have to accept it and be critical, but we must put the current situation in its proper context."

On whether he feels excited: "My mood does not change from day to day; I understand and analyze the match. I also criticize constructively but take into account the circumstances we have been through and what awaits us in January."

Regarding his wishes for 2026: "I hope the players return gradually and that there are more options so we do not have to play at our maximum capacity. I am ready for anything. I am not the type to impose many conditions."
