Maresca: My Connection to Manchester City Does Not Affect Me, These Are Chelsea's Ambitions
Chelsea's coach Enzo Maresca appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Newcastle in the 17th round of the English Premier League, to be held at St. James' Park.
The coach said about the team's condition: "We are fine. The players who missed the Cardiff match are in good condition. Liam Delap and Dario Essugo might be ready for the Aston Villa match, while Romeo Lavia is still out of consideration, as is Levi Colwill."
He added about Delap's injury: "Since his injury, we said we don't know exactly how long he will be out, but he is making good progress."
About tomorrow's match: "For me, it's always tough. Day or night, they are a very strong team. Their coach is excellent and has done an amazing job for years. Sandro Tonali, Guimarães, Joelinton, and Maïté as well, they are all great players and internationals. They complement each other. They are physically strong and good with the ball. They are 100% cohesive, perfect. It's difficult for any team to face them."
Regarding the goals and ambitions at Chelsea: "Definitely yes. We reached the third semi-final in 18 months just a few days ago. Last season was good in terms of trophies and finishing fourth in the Premier League. The goal is to try to improve on what we achieved last season."
About his future with Chelsea next season: "Definitely, yes. I have a contract until 2029. Everything being said is 100% speculation. I have nothing to add, and I don't care about these matters."
Regarding the link between his name and Manchester City: "This doesn't affect me because I know it's 100% speculation, and I don't have time for such matters. I have a contract here until 2029, and my full focus is on this club. I am proud to be here."
He concluded his statement: "A week ago in Italy, my name was linked to Juventus. I don't care about that. What matters is understanding why these rumors are appearing, but they are just speculations. The Newcastle match is very important and very difficult."
