Alonso apologizes to Real Madrid player

The Spanish newspaper "Marca" revealed that Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso issued a personal apology to player Víctor Valdepeñas following the statements he made during the press conference after the Alavés match (2-1).

According to the newspaper, Alonso spoke with the player face-to-face to clarify his intentions, following the controversy sparked by his statement when he said: "We conceded the goal in the only moment when Valdepinas made a mistake, because he was very solid in the rest of the plays."

Although the Spanish coach praised the player's overall performance, he felt that the wording could be misunderstood negatively or place direct responsibility for the goal on the player, which prompted him to apologize personally and clarify the situation.
