Guardiola's Admiration Casts Shadows on Rodrigo's Future
Saturday 13-12-2025
It seems that something connects Rodrigo Goes with Manchester City, and coach Pep Guardiola knows this well. The Brazilian star, who is used to scoring against City, stole the spotlight again in Real Madrid's match against the English team at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, not only because of his goal but also due to the Catalan coach's praise.

The Spanish coach said after the match, which Real Madrid lost 2-1: "What a player... He is on another level. Happy to see him back after the injury. He is a very good player, very good."

Rodrigo returned after 32 matches to score for Real Madrid, as usual against Manchester City, the team that has become his favorite victim, having scored 5 goals against them in 10 matches, the highest tally he has against a single club in his career.

Although Guardiola was previously close to making a move to sign him—especially if Savinho transferred to Tottenham last summer—Rodrigo remained committed to Real Madrid. He said in previous statements to "AS" newspaper: "As long as Real Madrid wants me, I will stay here. And if one day they tell me: look for a team... I will do it."

After scoring the goal against City, Rodrigo pointed to the Real Madrid emblem and went straight to embrace Xabi Alonso, in a scene that carried clear messages. After the match, he said: "I needed this goal. I wasn't at my best moments, but I worked hard to come back. I hope this helps me regain my form."

Despite Rodrigo's desire to continue at Real Madrid, the name Manchester City will remain around him, as the English club sees the Brazilian as a perfect fit for Guardiola's philosophy, who does not hide his admiration for him.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has no intention of letting the player go but has set his valuation between 90 and 100 million euros. With City's continued desire to strengthen their attack, while the player only thinks about regaining his best form and continuing to make history at the Bernabéu.
