Maresca: We Will Not Change Our Course, and This is the Palmer Case
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Everton in the sixteenth round of the Premier League, to be held at Stamford Bridge.
The coach said in his statement: "Cole Palmer finished the training session with us yesterday feeling mixed emotions, but he is fine, and Wesley Fofana is fine as well. He completed the training session yesterday. He is okay."
Regarding fatigue within the team, Enzo Marisca said: "They train daily to prepare for the matches. In the Atalanta game, Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella played many matches. It's natural that their performance isn't always consistent. I have no doubt that André Santos will get his chance, as will Jorell Hato. We hope to give them opportunities tomorrow or soon. It's impossible for any player to maintain the same level throughout the entire season, but we need to learn from our experiences for the future."
And he continued: "On how to improve performance levels: This is the next step for us. I believe the teams that show the most consistency in performance throughout the season are the ones that will compete for the top spots. How do we achieve that? It’s just one week, not a long time, but definitely when something happens, we are better prepared for the next match, and we can avoid it."
The team's decline: "This is football, and it is completely normal. We are always looking for problems and things that need to be addressed. The Leeds match was eight or nine days ago, and we will not change the course of the team's season just because we didn't get the points we expected. I am completely confident. This is football, and this is why we lost points."
Regarding his winning the Coach of the Month award for November and the poor start to December: "These kinds of awards come because you are doing the right things in terms of performance and results. For us, November was great. As for December, we didn't start it the way we wanted, even though all of that happened just a week ago. Three matches in one week where we didn't get the results we expected."
About Josh Atchabong: "The good thing about Josh is that whenever we give him the chance, he always performs well. That’s why I’ve said many times that he will become a great player at this club. He just needs patience until the right moment comes. If he continues to perform the way he is now, he will get more opportunities. Sometimes you look for stability in the lineup, which is why he hasn’t been a regular starter. But knowing you have a player who is always ready to perform when needed is very important. Josh needs to keep doing what he’s doing."
He concluded his talk about Delap's injury: "He moved to a big club and expectations were high for him, but through no fault of his own, things didn’t go as they should have. He knows he was a bit unlucky, but overall the situation is good. Now his focus is on recovery. He works daily at the club’s facilities to return to his teammates. It’s just a matter of time, and he will come back."
