Tolan's Statements Following Egypt's Exit from the Arab Cup
Helmy Tolan, the head coach of Egypt's second national team, spoke about his team's exit from the Arab Cup.
The Egyptian national team lost to Jordan 3-0 on Tuesday evening in the third and final round of the group stage of the Arab Cup, placing Egypt third in the group with two points and exiting the tournament.
At the press conference after the match, Toulon said: "I take full responsibility and do not shirk it. Jordan scored from 3 chances, while we missed 6-7 opportunities—that's football. I want to thank two people who supported the team before I arrived: Hani Abu Rida and one media figure, Medhat Shalaby. This team was born an orphan and found no one to support it. Fifteen national teams suspended their leagues for the national team, except for the Egyptian league."
He continued: "Our exit from the tournament was caused by an external factor, and everyone knows who is responsible. The Egyptian league was not stopped because of Pyramids Club, and everyone knows the level of Pyramids players. We came to the tournament without 7 key players, and I had to include new players. Whose responsibility is this?!"
Toulalan concluded his statements by referring to the perspective of some officials towards the tournament, which affected how the team was treated: "Some officials see the Arab Cup as a friendly tournament rather than an official one, and this has influenced the way the Egyptian national team participating in the tournament was handled."
