Alonso: Mbappé Will Repeat What Cristiano Did, and That's What We Want Tomorrow
Saturday 06-12-2025
Real Madrid's coach, Xabi Alonso, appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Celta Vigo in the fifteenth round of the Spanish league, to be held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The coach said: "We want to see an outstanding performance from Real Madrid, a complete match where we experience positive emotions, the fans enjoy it as well, and we maintain the continuity of our games in Bilbao. This is what we want and what we are working towards. We will return to Santiago Bernabéu, and this is the right time."

He added about the player who will occupy the right-back position: "We have to think carefully about the decision we will make. We have other options, and Valverde always puts the team's needs above his own. He has played there and performed well; he is a key player, but we will see tomorrow. I remember matches where Valverde delivered outstanding performances, such as the games against Barcelona, Villarreal, and Juventus. He is generous, respects himself, and wants to help the team. He embodies the club's values. Having him on our team is an unparalleled luxury."

About Bilbao's recent match: "It was a good, complete, and well-rounded match. We have gone through good phases in other games, like the match against Barcelona, and we want to continue that tomorrow. We need to keep winning matches and reach the required level in April and May. Playing well brings us closer to the league title. Celta Vigo is a demanding opponent; they play well and know what they want. We want to play a good match."

He continued: "Vinícius Júnior is going through an excellent phase, both personally and professionally. He delivered an outstanding performance at San Mamés. It's unfortunate that he didn't score in Greece. He brings a lot of energy to the team, and it's essential for him to be in this mental state. We hope he channels all these positive feelings tomorrow."

About Kylian Mbappé: "Kylian is on his way to making history with Real Madrid, just like Cristiano did. In terms of ambition and statistics... he is among the elite. Working with him daily is wonderful; his desire to influence others and his contagious energy are traits he shares with Cristiano. Here, I see similarities. Cristiano is Cristiano, and Kylian is Kylian. Both are present. Both are exceptional. We are very lucky to have Kylian, and we must make the most of it."

Regarding the numerous injuries in the team: "We are working to recover as many players as possible as quickly as we can. There will be good news in the near future. These are phases we have to live through. Our goal is to improve the situation as soon as possible and remain competitive with the current players."

Regarding Goller’s changing role: "He has the ability to play at different levels and exert varying degrees of influence, depending on the team’s needs. He excels at organizing play, while also delivering decisive passes, and he is even capable of making late runs into the penalty area. He adapts to the circumstances around him. This talent gives the team tactical flexibility, but he still has a lot of room to develop, and we need to invest in him, as I mentioned during the World Cup; because he is a unique player."

He continued: "How are you? I am fine, thank you. I know my current situation, the club's requirements, and that I need the calm necessary to focus on what is essential. To be self-critical, but without blaming myself."

Regarding Juan Martínez: "I see him doing well, like all the Castilla players; Álvaro Arbeloa is performing excellently, and everyone helps us a lot in training. Álvaro Arbeloa is a dear friend; we know each other well, and that’s important. Juan was called up, and if necessary, he will get opportunities, as will happen later."

He concluded on the possibility of Militão playing as a right-back: "It's an option; we have to see what we have in central defense. I think it was against... Senegal, he played as a right-back with Brazil and performed excellently. He has that talent. He reminds me a bit of Pepe, as he was competitive, and you knew that wherever he played, he would be competitive. Wherever Militão is needed, he will be there."
