Maresca: Leeds Was Better in Every Aspect, and Caicedo's Absence Affected Our Performance
Thursday 04-12-2025
Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat against Leeds United in the 14th round of the English Premier League. The match saw the home team shine while some issues appeared for the Blues. Head coach Enzo Maresca commented on the performance during the post-match press conference.

Maresca said: "Leeds was better than us in every aspect and deserved to win the match. There is nothing we can take from this game except to try to understand the mistakes we made and reset our performance, because we have another match in just 48 hours."

He added: "Just because we performed well against Barcelona or Arsenal last month, it doesn't mean we will always play at the same level. There are many reasons why performance varies from one match to another, especially due to the need to rotate players. The English Premier League is tough, and if you don't give 100% against any team, it will be difficult to achieve a good result."

Maresca continued: "Today we miss Moisés Caicedo, and we will also miss him in the next match. He is a very important player. Similarly, we miss Cole and the talent of some other players who are also very important to the team. Caicedo is an important player for any team in the world."

He added about the performance of the substitute players: "In the second half, both Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho gave their best performance. After scoring our goal, we had two more chances through Cole Palmer and João Pedro, but the third goal practically killed the match."

Maresca concluded his speech by saying, "We just need to learn from this match and keep working. Every player must take responsibility, and we need to improve our performance for the upcoming games, especially given the tight match schedule."
